GENERAL INFORMATION
Maria Barbara Knappenberger was born 30 April 1699 in Widdern, Jagstkreis, Wuerttemberg to Johann Albrecht Knappenberger and Anna Katharina [maiden name unknown] of Wuerttemberg. She was their oldest child. Maria Barbara left Wuerttemberg in 1732 traveling to America and landing in Pennsylvania as a single woman. Maria Barbara died 27 January 1772 in South Whitehall Township, Northampton County, PA (which later became Lehigh County in 1812). By 1733, she was married to Johan Conrad Kolb, Sr. known as “Conrad”, son of Johannes Adam Kolb and Anna Margaretha Mueller, in Upper Hanover Township, Montgomery County, PA. Conrad had lost his wife, Anna Elisabeth Gerichts, December 4, 1731 in Germany. Two of his four children arrived in Pennsylvania on the ship “Pleasant” which arrived 11 October 1732.
Johan Conrad Kolb, Sr. was born 31 May 1697 in Meckesheim, Baden and died 15 April 1781 in South Whitehall, Northampton County, PA. Johan Conrad Kolb, Sr.’s first wife was Anna Elisabeth Gerichts was born about 1700 in Baden. She was the daughter of Hans Adam Gerichts and Margaretha Beissel. They were married 13 January 1722 in Baden.

JOHAN CONRAD KOLB, JR. (1723-1777)
Johan Conrad Kolb (Jr) was born 20 May 1723 in Meckesheim, Baden and died about 1777 in Richmond Township, Berks County, PA. He married Catherine RUEBSAMIN who was born about 1725 in Berks County, PA and died about 1803. They had eight children. This family seemingly changed the spelling of their last name to CULP. 1. Catherine Culp was born about 1749 in Macungie Township, Northampton County, PA and died 10 May 1758 in Macungie Township, Northampton County, PA. She is buried in Lehigh Zion Church cemetery.
2. Jeremias Culp was born 1752 in Macungie Township, Northampton County, PA and died 29 December 1829. He married Anna Catherine MARKLE who died about 1811. They had 10 children. After the death of his first wife, Jeremias [also sometimes written Jeremiah] married Elizabeth RIESER/GANNER who was most likely a widow.

b. Jeremias Culp was born 11 September 1781 in Richmond Township, Berks County, PA. He married Elizabeth Lydia MARKLE who was born 21 January 1781 in Berks County, PA.

e. Maria Magdalena Culp known as “Polly” was born in 1786 in Berks County, PA. She married John SHELLHAMMER who was born in 1784.
f. Elisabetha Culp known as “Betty” was born 8 April 1788 in Berks County, PA. She married Samuel STAHL and had 2 daughters: Catherine Stahl and Susanna Stahl.
g. William Culp was born about 1790 and married Mary [maiden name unknown] and had 5 children: Jeremiah Culp, Sarah Culp, Lewis Culp, Daniel Culp and Floyd Culp.
h. Michael Culp (or Kolb) was born about 1790 in Berks County, PA and married Catharina [maiden name unknown] and had 3 sons: Jeremias Kolb (born 17 August 1803), David Kolb (born 23 September 1805), and Daniel Kolb (born 17 February 1807). All were born in Berks County, PA.
i. Rosina Culp married John HUMMEL and had 4 children: Elisabetha Hummel, John Hummel, Sally Hummel and Polly Hummel.

3. Eva Elisabeth Culp was born 1758 in Berks County, PA. She married Heinrich SITTLER known as “Henry”, son of Dietrich Sittler and Anna Marie Von Resler, on 21 December 1778 in Moselem Church, Berks County, PA. Henry was born 1747 in Berks County, PA and died 1816 in Columbia County, PA. They had 7 children.
a. Maria Ester Sittler was born 8 August 1779 in Berks County, PA.
b. Anna Maria Sittler was born 21 September 1781 in Berks County, PA.
c. Mary Elisabeth Sittler was born 10 October 1783 in Berkas County, PA and died sometime after 1870 in Columbia County, PA. She married Peter FOLK/FOULK who died between 1840-1850 in Briar Creek, Columbia County, PA. They had the following children: Jacob Foulk (born about 1821), Elizabeth Foulk (born about 1822), Catherine Fould, John Folk (born about 1825), Lucy Ann Fould (born about 1828), Jackson Folk (born about 1831), Sally Ann Foulk, Mary Margaret Foulk (born about 1836) and Simpson (or Simon) (born about 1840).
d. Maria Eva Sittler was born 13 April 1786 in Berks County, PA and died 15 April 1868 in Lockport Township, Niagara County, NY. She married Solomon FREY/FRY on 22 December 1806. Solomon was born about 1786 in PA and died 1872 in Niagara County, New York. They had 11 children:

e. Johann Frederick Sittler was born 21 April 1789 in Berks County. He first married Polly STOUT and had 2 children: Alfred Sittler and Daniel Sittler. He then married Elizabeth STEIN and had 7 children: Solomon Sittler who married Rebecca LEVAN, Benjamin Sittler who married Mary MILLER, Nathan Sittler who married Leah MILLER and then Sarah MILLER, Polly Sittler who married a Mr. BROWN, Hettie Sittler, Henry Sittler, and Lucy Ann Sittler who married Benjamin MATZ.

g. Mary Magdaline Sittler known as “Mollie” was born 4 April 1799 in Berks County, PA and died 25 November 1867 in Niagara County, New York. She married George Long who was born 1794/1797 in PA and died 2 September 1883 in Niagara County, NY. They are buried in Royalton Union Cemetery. They had 3 sons: William M. Long (born June 1834 and died after 1910 in Kansas), George J. Long (born about 1837 who died sometime after 1880 in Seneca County, NY), and Eli Long (born about 1839 in Columbia County, PA and died 1865 in Monocracy, Maryland as a POW during the Civil War).
4. Michael Culp was born about 1759 in Berks County, PA. He married Catherina C. RISMOELLER. They had five children: Jeremias J. Culp, David Culp, Daniel Culp, Samuel Culp and Catherina Culp.
5. Conrad Culp was born about 1763 in Berks County, PA and died 1846. He married Maria Magdalena [maiden name unknown]. They had 2 children.
a. Henry Culp was born 3 October 1791 in Sunbury, PA. He married Saloma COLAR who was born February 1790 in Sunbury, PA. They had 7 children: Peter Culp (born 22 April 1811) who married Gertrude LANTZ, Sarah Culp, Samuel Culp, Charles Culp, William Culp, Benjamin Culp who married Eve ZIMMERMAN, and Esther Culp.
b. Maria Magdalena Culp was born 9 October 1789 in Berks County, PA and married Abraham STERNER.
6. Peter Culp, Sr. was born about 1765 in Berks County, PA and died in 1838 in Salt Creek, Pickaway County, Ohio. He married Maria “Mary” HEINLEY, daughter of David Heinley and Sabina Kuder, in 1785. Mary was born about 1768 in PA and died about 1853 in Salt Creek, Pickaway County, Ohio. They had 6 children.
a. Hannah Culp was born 8 February 1786 in Berks County, PA. She married Daniel DIEFFABAUGH who was born in 1786. They had 11 children: George S. Dieffabaugh Peter Dieffabaugh, Mary Magdalene Dieffabaugh, Sarah Dieffabaugh, Leah Dieffabaugh, Lydia Dieffabaugh, Daniel M. Dieffabaugh, Adam Dieffabaugh, David Dieffabaugh, and Hannah Dieffabaugh.
b. Sebastian Culp was born 3 August 1789 in Berks County, PA and died 23 July 1859 in Pickaway County, Ohio. He married Lydia STUMP, daughter of John Jacob and Elizabeth Stump. Lydia was born about 1796 in PA and died in the 1850s in Pickaway County, Ohio. They had three children that we know: Mary Culp (born about 1818 and died 22 April 1875) who married William FETHEROLF on 12 April 1837, Leah Culp (1822-1829), and Isaac S. Culp (born about 1827) who married Sarah E. (born about 1830).
c. Peter Culp, Jr. was born 2 April 1792 in Berks County, PA and married Susannah BRAUCHER about 1816. Susannah was born 18 December 1798 in Berks County, PA. They lived in Salt Creek Township, Pickaway County, Ohio and had 14 children: Juriah Culp (born 15 October 1817), James Allen Culp (born 31 August 1819), Helen Culp (born 6 September 1820), Conrad B. Culp (born 13 June 1822), Henrietta Culp (born 21 October 1824), Susannah Culp (born 1 September 1826), Hester Ann Culp (born 15 October 1827), Rachel Culp (born 26 October 1829), Henry Bagamon Culp (born 12 December 1831), Charles H. Culp (born 7 July 1833), Thomas Culp (born 12 May 1835), Noah Culp (born 14 October 1837), Mary Susannah Culp (born 16 September 1840), Louis Harvey Culp (born 12 June1842).
d. Heinrich Culp known as “Henry” was born 5 February 1793 in Berks County, PA and married Sarah SPANGLER who was born 5 July 1803 in Salt Creek Township, Pickaway County, Ohio. They had 9 children that we know: Lewis Culp (born 1825), Amos Culp (born 1829), Harriet Culp (born 1831), Cynthia Culp (born 1832) Lucinda Leah Culp (born 1833), Mahala Culp (born 1835), Catherine Culp (born 1836) , Naomi Culp (born 1841), Lorene Jurie Culp (born 27 February 1845).
e. Sally or Sarah Culp was born about 1794 in Berks County, PA.
f. Mary Catherine Culp was born 13 February 1795 in Berks County, PA. She married Peter STUMP.
7. Jacob Culp was born about 1767 and married Elizabeth. They had 2 daughters: Elizabeth Culp (born 25 October 1794) and Sophia Culp (born 8 January 1804).

ANNA ELISABETH KOLB (1726-after 1768)
Anna Elisabeth was born 6 April 1726 in Meckesheim, Baden and died after 1768 in Nockamixon, Bucks County, PA. She married about 1744 to Johann Michael MAURER, son of George Michael Maurer. Johann Michael Maurer arrived in Pennsylvania in 1738. This couple had four children. The descendents of this family moved on to Virginia, and then a branch of this family eventually moved on to Utah. This family also changed the spelling of their name to MOWER. MICHAEL KOLB (1735-1812)
Michael was born about 1735 in Upper Hanover Township, Montgomery County, PA and died June 1812 in Whitehall Township, Lehigh County, PA. Michael was part of the Northampton County Militia, 6th Company of the Second Battalion during the Revolutionary War. He married Gertrude FETTER, daughter of Melchior Fetter, in early 1763. Gertrude was born about 1740 and died June 1812 in Lehigh County, PA. In 1768 they owned a tract of 167 acres of which 45 acres were cultivated. Michael and Gertrude died within a couple of weeks of each other. They had 11 children all born in Northampton County (which later became Lehigh County in 1812) PA.
1. Eva Elisabeth Kolb was born 21 October 1763 in Upper Saucon Township, Northampton County, PA. She is believed to have died prior to reaching maturity.
2. Maria Margaret Kolb was born 6 June 1765 in Whitehall Township, Northampton County, PA and died 8 January 1819 in Lehigh County, PA. She married Jacob CLADER, son of Valentine Clader and Anna Catherine Busz, about 1797. Jacob was born 9 February 1751 in Bethlehem Township, Northampton County, PA and died 25 March 1832 in Allentown, Lehigh County, PA. Jacob was married first to Salome Sherer and had 8 children. Jacob served as a Captain on the Pennsylvania Line, 1781-1783, during the Revolutionary War. Jacob and Maria Margaret Kolb had 4 children.
a. Valentine Clader was born 1801 in Northampton County, PA and died 1884. He married Sarah BORTZ who was born 1801 and died 1849. They had 6 children: Samuel Clader (born about 1825-1901) who married Amelia SCHEIRER, Catherine Clader (1826-1911) who married Philip GREISS (1827-1899), Tilghman Clader (born about 1818) who married Catherine (born about 1818), William Clader (born about 1837) who married Elizabeth (born about 1838), Sarah Clader who married Rev. KREISS, Mary Clader who married a Mr. BEIL.

c. Eva Clader who married a Mr. KIDD and a Mr. NAGEL. She may be the mother of Susanna Nagle born about 1825 in Pennsylvania and was 34 years of age, single, living with Eva Kidd in the 1860 census.

3. Eva Catherine Kolb was born 13 April 1767 in Whitehall Township, Northampton County, PA and died 5 May 1833 in Whitehall Township, Lehigh County, PA. She married John Jacob ROTH, son of Daniel Roth and Catharine Margaret Miller, on 23 November 1790 in Whitehall Township, Lehigh County, PA. John Jacob was born 26 March 1765 in Whitehall Township, Northampton County, PA and died 20 December 1833 in Allentown, Lehigh County, PA. They had 8 children.
a. John Roth was born 23 February 1791 in Whitehall Township, Northampton County, PA. and died 2 March 1856.
b. Peter Roth was born 15 November 1792 in Whitehall Township, Northampton County, PA and died 28 February 1864. He first married Lydia HELFRICH, daughter of John Helfrich and Magdalena Blank. Lydia was born 9 October 1801 in Northampton County, PA and died 24 January 1835 in Lehigh County, PA. They had five children: Eva Catharine Roth (born 2 May 1826), William Roth (born 20 March 1828), Christianna Roth (born 30 March 1830), Elouisa Roth (born 16 March 1832) and Lydia Roth (born 27 July 1833). All were born in Whitehall Township, Lehigh County, PA. Peter’s second wife was Magdalena STRAUSS, daughter of Peter Strauss and Salome Meyer. Magdalena was born April 1813 in Lehigh County, PA and died 29 March 1904 in Allentown, Lehigh County, PA. They were married 26 May 1836. The 1900 census indicates that Magdalena had given birth to 11 children of which 8 were alive in 1900. These children include: Sarah Roth (born 2 July 1836), Justina Paulina Roth (born 13 January 1838), Edmund Daniel Roth (born 19 August 1839), Polly Roth (7 July 1840 – 26 March 1908) who first married Jenry BANKHARD Jr (born about 1836) and later married Abraham WORMAN (1821-1913), Tilera (?) Roth (born 28 August 1844), Peter Jacob Roth (born 14 February 1847), Mary Rebecca Roth (born 7 October 1848), Henry A. Roth (born January 1851), Amanda J. Roth (born 24 June 1853) and Alfred J. Roth (born March 1858). All were born in Whitehall Township, Lehigh County, PA.
c. Johan Jacob Roth was born 8 May 1795 in Whitehall Township, Northampton County, PA and died 29 September 1875 in Lehigh County, PA. He married Anna SCHREIBER, daughter of Jacob Schreiber and Eve C. Leisenring, on 5 January 1823. Anna was born 24 January 1804 in PA and died 14 July 1883 in Lehigh County, PA. They had 10 children:
- Celia or Ascillia Roth was born about 1824 in Lehigh County, PA. She married Reuben SNYDER who was born February 1824 and died 2 July 1878. They had 6 children: Alfred H. - Josiah Roth was born 21 November 1825 in Lehigh County, PA and died 31 January 1899. He married Salome or Sarah LEISENRING who was born 4 August 1825 and died in the 1860s. They had 2 sons: Jacob P. Roth (born about 1857) and Alfred Roth (born about 1859).
- Eliza Malvina Roth was born 17 May 1828 in Lehigh County, PA and die 6 November 1893. She married Levi FRANKENFIELD (3 October 1825-June 1849) and had 3 children: Marisa Lenora Frankenfield (born about 1848) and twins Dallas Jacob L. Frankenfield (born about 1849) and Malissa M.E. Frankenfield (born about 1849). Eliza Roth then married George H. WHITESELL, son of John David Whitesell and Julia Ann Diehl. George was born about 1832 in PA. They had 3 sons: John J. Whitesell (9 July 1862), Robert M. Whitesell (born about 1864) and Forrest E. Whitesell (24 December 1868).
- Charlotte Maria Roth was born 15 January 1831 and died 3 October 1859. She married Jacob YOUNG on 17 March 1853. They had one son: Franklin J. Young (born about 1856 in Lehigh County, PA).
- Sarah Roth was born about 1834 in Lehigh County, PA. She married James BEERS on 13 August 1848. James was born about 1833 in PA. They had a daughter: Anna Beers (born about 1861 in Lehigh County, PA).
- Anna Maria Roth was born 28 March 1835 in Lehigh County, PA.
- Catherine Eva Roth was born June 1836 in Lehigh County, PA and died December 1918 in Lehigh County, PA. a. Elias Roth was born 24 May 1805 in South Whitehall Township, Northampton County, PA and died 25 January 1883 in Upper Macungie Township, Lehigh County, PA. Elias married Anna Mary DUTT about 1838 in Lehigh County, PA. Anna Mary was born 15 June 1817 in Lehigh County, PA and died 7 October 1894 in Lehigh County, PA. They had 2 daughters:
- Eliza Roth was born 19 November 1839 in Lehigh County and died 31 January 1883 in Upper Macungie Township, Lehigh County, PA. She married James FALSTICH who was born 19 June 1839 in Lehigh County, PA and died there 25 November 1914. They had 6 children: Mary Jane Falstich (1863-21 January 1864), Clement Joseph Falstich (30 November 1864-4 February 1937), John W. Falstich (25 June 1867-30 January 1869), Annie Carolina Salome Falstich (18 November 1869-22 February 1942), Cora M.B. Falstich (23 August 1872-5 December 1962), Jacob D. Falstich (born 1875 and died young).
- Sarah Roth was born 3 November 1847 in Upper Macungie Township, Lehigh County, PA and died 22 November 1910 in Lehigh County, PA. She married Jeremiah D. ROHRBACH who was born 8 July 1847 and died 5 April 1918. They had 7 children: George Elias Rohrbach (22 March 1869-8 April 1869), Mary Ann Rohrbach (1870-1942), Harvey Eli Rohrbach (31 August 1872-1 January 1906), Kate Mary Lizzie Rohrbach (8 July 1874-9 May 1928), William Henry Rohrbach (11 February 1877-15 August 1898), Lizzie Catherina Rohrbach (born December 1881), Clement Ralph Rohrbach (7 August 1883-1937).
b. Daniel Roth was born 15 June 1809 in Whitehall Township, Lehigh County, PA and died about 1830 in Whitehall Township, Lehigh County, PA. Daniel never married.
5. John Jacob Kolb was born 15 December 1770 in Whitehall Township, Northampton County, PA and died 17 October 1775 in Northampton County, PA.
6. Elisabeth Kolb was born 6 July 1772 in Whitehall Township, Northampton County, PA and died 19 November 1772 in Whitehall Township, Northampton County, PA at the age of 4 months and 13 days.
7. Anna Maria Kolb was born 3 April 1774 in Whitehall Township, Northampton County, PA County and married Samuel KOLB who was born about 1771. We do not know of any relationship between the two at this time.
8. John Adam Kolb was born 22 February 1777 in Whitehall Township, Northampton County, PA and died 21 April 1832 in Whitehall Township, Northampton County, PA. He married Susanna who was born about 1785. They had 1 son.
a. Jonathan Kolb was born 25 December 1808 in Whitehall Township, Northampton County, PA. According to the 1850 census for Allentown, PA, Jonathan’s mother, Susanna, was living with him and he was operating a hotel. Jonathan married Maria [last name unknown].
9. Susanna Kolb was born 19 August 1779 in Whitehall Township, Northampton County, PA. She married Peter WIANT who was born about 1776. This couple may have moved to Bradford, PA where a “Peter Wieand” lived.
10. Anna Elisabeth Kolb was born 6 April 1781 in Whitehall Township, Northampton County, PA. She is believed to have died prior to reaching maturity.
11. John Henry Kolb was born 9 June 1783 in Whitehall Township, Northampton County, PA. He married Eva in 1810 who was born about 1785. They had 2 sons.
a. Peter Kolb was born 19 September 1811 in Whitehall Township, Northampton County, PA. He married Sarah who was born about 1817.
b. Henry Kolb was born 14 September 1813 in Whitehall Township, Northampton County, PA.
JACOB FREDERICK KOLB (1737-1819)
Jacob Frederick was born 1737 in Montgomery County, PA and died 7 October 1819 most likely in Lehigh County, PA at the age of 83. Jacob was enrolled in the Northampton Militia, 2nd Battalion, 6th Company during the Revolutionary War along with his brother Michael. He apparently never married.
JOHAN ADAM KOLB (1738-?)
Johan Adam was born 1738 in Montgomery County, PA. It is assumed that he either died in early childhood or left no surviving offspring to be included in his brother Jacob’s will.
EVA ELISABETH KOLB (1742-?)
Eva Elisabeth was born 2 September 1742 in Montgomery County, PA. It appears that she never married. According to her brother Jacob’s will, he apparently had taken financial responsibility for her and set up a monthly income on her behalf.
